Oklahoma Indian Missionary Conference
Donna Chaat Pewo
My name is Donna Chaat Pewo. I am a member of the Comanche Nation of Oklahoma. I’m serving under the General Board of Global Ministries as a Church and Community Worker in Clinton, Oklahoma, at the Clinton Indian Church and Community Center. I also serve El Reno United Methodist Church as a licensed local pastor. I am the mother of two adult children and grandmother of five beautiful grandchildren.

Because God has seen me through so much that has taken place in my life, my call and passion to serve God were very strong. I just did not know in what capacity I would be serving. One night in 1999, I had a dream that I was on a road. At the far end of the road, there was a fork—one path leading to the left and one to the right. As I was standing there, looking in both directions, I heard God say, “Follow me.” God wanted me to follow—and that was the turning point in my life. The decision to follow God’s road has placed me where I am today at Clinton Indian Church and Community Center.

As a result of listening to God’s call, I have been led to a community center that is dedicated to the Native American culture of the Cheyenne and Arapaho peoples. The church and the community center together are providing an opportunity for Native American people—not only in the church but also in the surrounding community—to become involved in the gospel and in living out God’s call to love, mercy, and justice for all.
Poolville United Methodist Church, working through the Central Texas Conference, has entered a minimum three year Covenant Relationship with Donna Pewo whereby we will provide support in the way finances, gifts, talents and service to support her missionary work in Oklahoma. It is our hope that before year’s end, we can organize a mission trip to Oklahoma to help perform some needed repairs to the church building and school.

As part of their three year Covenant with Donna Pewo and the Oklahoma Missionary Conference in Clinton Oklahoma, area youth and members of the Poolville United Methodist Church will be taking a one day mission trip this Saturday, April 8th, 2014.

Donna is a member of the Comanche Nation of Oklahoma and serves under the General Board of Global Ministries as a Church and Community Worker in Clinton, and at the Clinton Indian Church and Community Center. She also serves El Reno United Methodist Church as a licensed local pastor.

Fifteen local youth and about the same number of adults will be leaving either Friday morning or very early Saturday (about 4:30 AM) to do whatever needs to be done and whatever can be done in a single day. Expected projects include making repairs on playground equipment, some painting, exterior repairs, plumbing and a lot of interior carpentry including shelves.

Personal vehicles will be used, but the First United Methodist Church in Weatherford has graciously volunteered the use of their fifteen passenger van.
